How to Apply

The application and enrollment process at the Leelanau School is a five-step process that is intended to ensure that the students who enroll are a good fit for the Leelanau School and vice versa. We’re not looking for perfect academic records; we are looking for students who we think will thrive in a hands-on learning environment that the Leelanau School provides.

We try to make the application process as easy as possible but it is normal to have questions. Please contact us if you have any questions along the way at (231) 334-5800 or admissions@leelanau.org.

A campus visit is not required to enroll at the Leelanau School but we strongly encourage students and families to see the campus. There is no better way to understand the school and our community than to see it for yourself. You can plan a visit at any point, whether you are just researching the school or you are nearly ready to enroll. Our corner of the world happens to be a wonderful vacation spot so some families plan their summer travels around a campus visit. Please schedule your visit with the admissions office. (See contact info above.) Visit our travel page for more information.

The Five-Step Enrollment Process

  1. Complete your application. The Leelanau School has a short preliminary application and a longer detailed application.

Step 1 – Fill out the preliminary application online. It is best if you can do this before your campus tour, so we are familiar with the student before they arrive.

Step 2 – Fill out the detailed application. After the preliminary online application is complete, you will be redirected to the rest of the online application process. (Click HERE to access that page.) There are several sections including:

  1. Send your transcripts and rest results. Along with your application, we ask that you send in the student’s current school records and relevant testing. Please submit copies of any academic and/or psychological test results that have been completed within five years of this application. International students are required to take the TOEFL, or an equivalent examination, and report scores to the Leelanau School. These can be sent along by mail or email.
  1. Admissions Team Review: Once all of the proper documents and materials have been received, the admissions committee will meet to review the prospective student’s application. Enrollment decisions are based on the evaluation of the school visit/Skype meeting, school transcripts, and other documentation. If the student is accepted a contract will be issued.
  2. Apply for Financial Aid. We have a need-blind Admission policy at the Leelanau School, meaning that we accept the student first, before we provide a family with a financial aid award. As the financial aid process can take some time parents can begin as soon as possible, but no offer will be made until a student is accepted. Click HERE for more financial aid information.
  3. Complete the enrollment register. When a student has been accepted, and the contract has been signed, we will send enrollment and student forms to be filled out before the student’s arrival to campus.
