Dorms and Residence Life
In keeping with the school’s over-arching philosophy of there being many ways to learn, our school also has an integrated life skills program which addresses support of students’ needs in a comprehensive wellness model which is designed to be developmentally appropriate and effective for our students’ lives. Our Residential Faculty strive to make our school a home for our students!
As we consider Student Life with a global perspective on our campus, we see our “dorms” as the students’ homes while they work, play and live on our campus for the school year. All our dorms have been recently renovated and are the envy of many alumni who come back for visits!
There are three Houses on campus. Cochran House – for boys, Kindel House – for boys and Pinebrook House for girls. Students typically have one roommate. Rooms are well sized and have plenty of storage to accommodate two students. Students are responsible for room upkeep and cleanliness. Depending on the dorm, bathrooms are either a common bathroom with private showers, and ample toilets and sinks or are suite style with a shared bathroom among two rooms/four students. There are common areas within the houses to provided space for student social engagement as well as regular house meetings. Dorms are equipped with extra refrigerators, kitchen areas, and recreational areas to provide a home-like atmosphere.
Each House is staffed by a Head of House and two House parents as members of our Residential Faculty. The Residential Faculties are parents to all students on campus. Their work helps make our campus truly a home for our students. The Head of House is responsible for the operations of the house including assigning rooms, overseeing the physical plant, facilitating the structures of the house and after class schedules. The Heads of House also rotate in being Heads of Campus where they are the “officer in charge” during the evenings and weekends. The House Parents work with the students to ensure daily room condition, and monitor the academic, social and emotional well-being of the students in their house.
All Residential Faculty rove throughout the campus during student free times making their presence known and monitoring campus activity.
Each evening, the Residential Faculty communicate the evening’s activities and document any student concerns to faculty and supervisors. Through weekly residential faculty meetings and full faculty meetings, the residential faculty is aware of any updates, student concerns and recommended student strategies that they implement in their work on behalf of our students.
